Window Blinds Orleans: Zebra, Blackout and Vertical Blinds from Convent Glen to Avalon

By The Window Blinds Ottawa Crew ·

Window Blinds Ottawa runs a weekly route to east-end Orleans homes and condo towers, covering Chapel Hill, Convent Glen, Fallingbrook, Chatelaine Village and Avalon. Because a crew is already on Highway 174 every week, measures and installs get booked on the next route day instead of waiting for a special trip. We measure every window in-home to the sixteenth of an inch and bring Hunter Douglas, Levolor and Graber samples to your living room. The most common order out here is zebra blinds in the living areas with blackout upstairs, and every range is published in CAD up front.

A recent package on the route, master bedroom blackout plus living room zebras, came in at $2,800 and was installed 2 weeks after the measure. That is the kind of job the weekly route was built for.

What We Hear on Local Measures

Sun, Drafts and Worn Verticals in Orleans Homes

Worn patio door verticals in Convent Glen and Fallingbrook

Vanes clack, yellow and drop off the carrier, and the slider lets in a wall of cold air in January and low sun in July.

Why it happens here: Convent Glen went up from the late 1960s and Fallingbrook in the 1980s and 1990s, so many of these patio doors still carry the PVC verticals the builder hung.

How we fix it: We replace them with fabric or S-vane vertical blinds, or quote a panel track for wide, busy sliders, and book the install on the weekly route.

1

Light gaps at the edges

Blinds cut to the nearest inch leave a bright stripe down each side at 7am. A blind made to the sixteenth closes edge to edge.

2

Cold glass in January

The cold spot by the sofa is usually the window chilling the air. A double-cell cellular shade traps air at the glass.

3

Yellowed, warped slats

Summer UV breaks down builder-grade vinyl on south and west windows. Bowed, yellow slats will not recover.

4

Frayed or looped cords

Older corded blinds do not meet Canadian cord rules and wear out at the lift. Cordless fixes both.

How We Work

How the Weekly Route Works, 5 Steps

The same five steps on every job, from one window to a whole house.

  1. 1

    In-Home Laser Measurement

A certified measurer visits and records every window to within 1/16 of an inch, including jamb depth, square and obstructions like handles and cranks.

  2. 2

    Design Consultation

400+ fabric, wood and cellular samples checked against your trim, floors and real window light, with a written CAD quote before you commit.

  3. 3

    Order and Manufacture

Some companies measure to the nearest inch and the blind sits an inch short. We order to exact specs through 15 Canadian suppliers.

  4. 4

    Delivery and Verification

Our lead installer checks every blind against the job sheet when it lands, so the size, colour and hardware are right before the truck leaves.

  5. 5

East-End Window Know-How

Our Weekly East-End Route

This is the farthest part of the city from our Nepean showroom, so instead of one-off trips we run a fixed east-end route every week. The crew heads out the Queensway, picks up Highway 174 and works through Convent Glen, Chapel Hill and Fallingbrook, then down to Avalon and back along Innes Road. Measures and installs both ride that route.

When you call, we give you the next route day, usually within the week. If you need something sooner, say a tenant moving in or a shift-work bedroom that cannot wait, ask and we will see what we can shuffle. Condos around Place d'Orleans are booked with property management first so the elevator and loading dock are ready.

East-End Homes and Towers We Know Well

Convent Glen went up from the late 1960s, and Chapel Hill and Fallingbrook followed in the 1980s and 1990s, so many two-storeys here still have original patio doors wearing the same PVC vertical blinds they came with. Those verticals clack, yellow and lose vanes. We swap them for fabric or S-vane verticals ($250-$800) or quote panel track for wide sliders.

Avalon, built from the early 2000s, looks a lot like Barrhaven: newer builds, bigger glass and bare windows at possession. Chatelaine Village and the towers near Place d'Orleans bring condo work with big south-facing glass that heats up fast. Solar rollers in 3% or 5% openness take the heat out of those afternoons without blocking the view.

Bedrooms across the east end get a lot of blackout requests. Shift workers at the Montfort and families with young kids both want true dark, which means blackout fabric plus side channels, not just a thicker blind.

East-End Sun and Ottawa River Wind

Homes closer to the Ottawa River pick up more wind in winter, and older Convent Glen windows feel it. Cellular shades in bedrooms or a dual roller in the living room help on those cold nights.

Summer brings long evenings of sun on south and west windows in Avalon and Fallingbrook. Zebra blinds are popular because one pull moves the room from filtered light to privacy without closing it up completely.

Local Answers

Orleans Window Blinds Questions Answered

How often do you come to Orleans?

Every week. Measures and installs are booked on the next route day, usually within the week, and nearby Blackburn Hamlet jobs often ride the same trip.

Do you work in condo towers near Place d'Orleans?

Yes. We coordinate elevator and loading-dock time with property management and install in occupied east-end towers without leaving units uncovered overnight.

What is popular in Orleans homes?

Zebra blinds in living areas and blackout in bedrooms, often as a package around $2,800. Cellular shades are a close third in older, draftier homes.

Do you serve Fallingbrook and Avalon?

Yes, both are on the weekly route along with Chapel Hill, Convent Glen and Chatelaine Village, across postal areas K1C, K1E, K1W and K4A.

Our Convent Glen patio door still has its original verticals. Is panel track better?

Convent Glen dates from the late 1960s and 1970s, so many sliders there are on their first or second set of PVC vanes. Fabric or S-vane verticals run $250-$800, and panel track suits wide, busy sliders better.
