Types of Aluminum Blinds We Install in Ottawa
Aluminum venetian blinds are horizontal slats on ladder cords, tilted with a wand and raised with a cordless lift or a cord. They are thin, light and tough, which is why they still win in wet rooms and rentals.
1-Inch Aluminum Blinds
The classic slim slat. It fits shallow recesses thanks to a low headrail profile and looks neat on smaller windows, in bathrooms and in kids’ rooms.
2-Inch Aluminum Blinds
Wider slats give a cleaner, more modern look and a better view out when tilted. A good choice for condo kitchens and home offices with larger windows.
Cordless Aluminum Blinds
Cordless lift removes the long pull cords. You raise and lower from the bottom rail, and a tilt wand handles the slats.

5 Rooms Where Aluminum Blinds Beat Every Other Option
- Bathrooms with a shower window. No warping, no swelling, no mildew in the slats.
- Kitchens over the sink. Splashes wipe off, and a brushed finish can match stainless appliances.
- Laundry rooms. Humid, warm and often ignored. Aluminum does not care.
- Rental units. Durable, cheap to replace a slat, and neutral colours suit any tenant.
- Home offices. Tilt the slats up to bounce daylight to the ceiling and keep glare off the screen.
What Stops Ottawa Homeowners From Buying Aluminum Blinds?
Price shock. Not usually a problem here. At $120-$450 per window installed, aluminum is one of our lowest-cost options, and in our opinion the best value for wet rooms.
Custom vs stock. Stock aluminum blinds get cut down at the store and often end up crooked or a half inch short. Ours are made to your measured size with hold-down brackets where needed.
Is motorization worth it? Not on aluminum venetians. If you want motorized, look at rollers or cellular.
Delivery timeline. About 2-3 weeks, often installed the same day as other blinds in the house.

Aluminum vs Vinyl Blinds for Kitchens, Baths and Rentals
Both are low-cost and moisture-friendly, so the choice comes down to sun and lifespan. Vinyl is the cheapest blind we install ($95-$350), but standard vinyl can yellow and warp in strong south or west light. Aluminum ($120-$450) holds its colour and shape much longer and comes in more finishes, including brushed metal. For a north-facing bathroom or a short-term rental, vinyl blinds are fine. For a sunny kitchen, a long-term rental or any room where you want the blind to still look good in five years, aluminum is worth the small difference.
