By The Window Blinds Ottawa Crew ·
Window Blinds Ottawa templates Gloucester split-levels and 1960s-era bay windows within 3 business days, across Blackburn Hamlet, Pineview, Beacon Hill and Castle Heights. These streets have more bay windows per block than almost anywhere in the city, and most of them have been fitted with three mismatched blinds by three different owners. We laser-measure every angle, apply corner deductions so the headrails meet without gaps, and order Hunter Douglas, Levolor or Graber product to suit. Cellular shades for drafty original windows and mini blinds for shallow basement openings are the other regulars, all priced in published CAD.
A typical Beacon Hill job: one 1962 bay templated in three days and fitted with matching wood blinds for $1,950, plus cellular shades in the bedrooms.

What We Hear on Local Measures
Bay Window and Draft Problems in Gloucester Homes
Three mismatched blinds on one Beacon Hill bay
The living room bay has a different blind on each pane, the headrails collide in the corners and a triangle of light shows at every angle.
Why it happens here: Beacon Hill was built in the 1960s and 1970s, and after decades and several owners, most bays here have been fitted one pane at a time with stock sizes.
How we fix it: Bay window blinds templated as one set within 3 business days, with corner deductions so each headrail clears its neighbour.
Light gaps at the edges
Blinds cut to the nearest inch leave a bright stripe down each side at 7am. A blind made to the sixteenth closes edge to edge.
Cold glass in January
The cold spot by the sofa is usually the window chilling the air. A double-cell cellular shade traps air at the glass.
Yellowed, warped slats
Summer UV breaks down builder-grade vinyl on south and west windows. Bowed, yellow slats will not recover.
Frayed or looped cords
Older corded blinds do not meet Canadian cord rules and wear out at the lift. Cordless fixes both.

East-End Split-Level Know-How
Getting Across the Greenbelt to You
We are about 25 minutes from the Nepean showroom across the Queensway, and we often pair these jobs with our weekly east-end Orleans route. Bay window templating is booked within 3 business days of your call.
We come in along Montreal Road or Ogilvie Road depending on the street. Blackburn Hamlet, one of only two suburban areas ringed by NCC Greenbelt land, has quiet crescents and easy parking. Pineview homes near the golf course and Castle Heights streets off St. Laurent are a short hop. Most installs out here are finished in a morning.
1960s Bays and Split-Levels We Know Well
Beacon Hill was built mostly in the 1960s and 1970s, and Castle Heights and Pineview share that era, with split-levels and bungalows that almost all have a living room bay. Bays are where cheap blinds fail: stock headrails collide in the corners, leaving a triangle of light at each angle. We measure each pane, record the angle and deduct for the corner so every blind clears its neighbour. Wood, cellular or roman shades per pane are the common solutions, and shutters are an option for a more permanent look.
Blackburn Hamlet welcomed its first residents in 1967, and most of its homes date from the 1960s and 1970s, many still with original windows that let in cold air. Cellular shades are the go-to there. Split-level basements across the area have shallow, half-height windows where only mini blinds or slim cellular will sit flush.
Older trim in these homes is often worth keeping. Inside-mount blinds keep it visible, and we will tell you honestly if the recess is too shallow for that.
Original Windows Through a Cold Season
Single-pane storms and early double-pane windows in 1960s homes lose heat fast. Double-cell cellular shades are the most cost-effective upgrade short of new windows, and Blackburn Hamlet clients often notice the difference by December.
Bay windows also catch a lot of afternoon sun. Light-filtering cellular or wood blinds tilted up keep the room bright without glare on the TV.

Local Answers
Gloucester Window Blinds Questions
Our Beacon Hill bay has three mismatched blinds. Can you make it one set?
Yes. Beacon Hill was built mostly in the 1960s and 1970s, and many bays there have been fitted piecemeal by different owners. We template the whole bay within 3 business days and apply corner deductions so the headrails meet cleanly.
Do cellular shades help drafty older windows?
Yes. Honeycomb cells trap air at the glass, which helps in Blackburn Hamlet and Beacon Hill homes with original windows.
Do you fit blinds in Castle Heights and Pineview too?
Yes. We cover Blackburn Hamlet and Pineview (K1B), Beacon Hill (K1J), Castle Heights and the streets in between, and pair jobs with our weekly east-end route.
How fast can you template a bay window in Gloucester?
Within 3 business days of your call. We laser-measure each pane and the angles between them, then order one matching set, usually about 4 weeks out.
What do bay window blinds cost?
Bay window blinds run $450-$2,200 per bay installed, depending on the number of panes and the product.
